Mitton Hall wedding photographer
Mitton Hall sits just outside Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley, and it hands a photographer two completely different venues in one building. Inside, the oak-panelled rooms are dark, warm and full of texture. Outside, the gardens are open and bright. Getting both to sit together in one set of photographs is most of the job here.
I am a wedding photographer based in Ormskirk and I cover the Ribble Valley regularly. My approach is natural and candid. I photograph the day as it happens rather than directing it, which suits a venue like Mitton Hall where the best moments tend to happen in the corners of those panelled rooms rather than in front of the camera.
A real wedding at Mitton Hall
Gemma and Brendan married at Mitton Hall in June 2026. The weather could not decide what it wanted to do and did both beautifully. Sunshine lit the gardens and the oak-panelled rooms for the ceremony, and then a proper Lancashire thunderstorm rolled through the Ribble Valley in the afternoon and sent the guests laughing to the windows to watch it. They booked half day coverage and received 597 images.

What to know about photographing here
The indoor light is beautiful but low. That is not a problem, but it is the reason I shoot the way I do here, working with what the windows give rather than lighting the room and flattening it. It is worth knowing if you are comparing photographers, because the Mitton Hall photographs you have seen and liked were almost certainly taken that way.
The gardens give you somewhere to go for couple portraits without a drive, which is worth more than it sounds on a tight timeline. And because the Ribble Valley weather does what it likes, it is sensible to have an indoor fallback agreed with the venue rather than hoping. On Gemma and Brendan’s day the storm turned into one of the best parts of the gallery.
