Registry Office Wedding Photography in Lancashire

Registry office wedding photographer

A registry office ceremony is short. Twenty minutes, sometimes less. There is no rehearsal, no second take, and no photographer wandering the room rearranging people — most registrars won’t allow it, and nor should they.

That is exactly why reportage wedding photography suits a registry office better than any other approach. Reportage means I photograph what happens rather than staging what should have happened: the look between you as the registrar speaks, your mum’s face two rows back, the signing, the confetti outside. You get the day as it actually was, not a set of poses you had to hold while your guests waited.

Most of my work is across Lancashire and Merseyside, and a good share of it is registry office ceremonies. Every one of these is a full gallery you can look through:

Knowing a room in advance matters more than it sounds. I know where the light falls, where I can stand without being in the registrar’s eyeline, and where the good spot outside is for the group shot afterwards. On a twenty-minute ceremony, that knowledge is the difference between covering it and missing it.

How I work in a registry office

I arrive early and introduce myself to the registrar. Every office has its own rules about where a photographer may stand and whether photography during the vows is permitted at all — I check rather than assume, and I work within whatever they say. I use no flash during the ceremony and quiet equipment throughout.

After the ceremony there is usually time outside for confetti, a few relaxed group photographs and some time with just the two of you. This is the part most couples underestimate; it takes fifteen minutes and it produces a good number of the photographs you will actually print.

What it costs

Ceremony-only coverage starts at £350. That covers your arrival, the ceremony itself, the signing and the time outside afterwards, with every edited image delivered to you — typically between 300 and 500 photographs from a ceremony-only booking.

If you’re having a meal or a party later in the day, half-day and full-day coverage are on the wedding photography packages page.

If you are still in the planning stages, I have written a longer guide to registry office weddings in Lancashire and Merseyside covering timings and what to expect on the day.

Check your date

Registry office Saturdays book up early, and most offices only run a handful of ceremony slots a day. If you have a date in mind, send it over and I’ll tell you straight away whether I’m free.
